How to Get Dog Pee Out of Your Carpet

!±8± How to Get Dog Pee Out of Your Carpet

A new puppy in the home brings the family lots of fun, but it also brings many challenges. Making the home puppy-proof will be the first step and that involves keeping anything harmful or chewable out of the puppy's reach. Knowing how to get dog pee out of your carpet is another skill that will need to be acquired, as accidents are sure to happen.

When a dog urinates on the carpet, it leaves not only a smelly odor but a nice stain. If it is not properly cleaned, this area serves as a bull's eye for the dog to pee on repeatedly over time. After a while, the carpet becomes ruined because the odor and stain are nearly impossible to remove. Therefore, it is important to attack the scene of the stain early and remove all traces of the urine.

Use a paper towel to absorb the urine, stepping on the towel to get up as much of the stain as possible. Repeat this process until there is no more liquid, then apply a product designated for dog urine removal. Products that contain ammonia should not be used to clean the spot because dog urine actually contains ammonia, so the ammonia cleaner will encourage the dog to pee there again.

A homemade product can be made by mixing 50 percent water with 50 percent white vinegar. Use a brush to work the solution deep into the carpet, then blot the area using paper towels or use a wet vac. Once the spot is dry, sprinkle it with baking soda and leave it. Mix a teaspoon of liquid dish detergent with a cup of three percent hydrogen peroxide and pour this mixture over the baking soda. Wearing rubber gloves, work the mixture into the carpet, using the hands and a brush. Allow the carpet to dry and then vacuum to remove the residue.

There are also commercial products that are effective at removing these stains. Products that use oxygen power, such as those sold by OxiClean, Woolite, and Bissell remove tough odors and stains without harming the environment. Another great product line is Nature's Miracle because it permanently removes the stain, odor, and dries quickly. The company sells products specifically for dog urine, in addition to its assortment for other types of pet stains and odors.

Knowing how to get dog pee out of your carpet will come in handy when tiny Fido takes his first squat in the dining room. In order to prevent that area from becoming his new toilet, clean up the urine, then treat it with a homemade solution or commercial product designed for this purpose. The carpet will smell fresh again and Fido can resume his potty training activities outside in the yard.
